The 5 Pathways to Finish or Strengthen Your Novel

1

GENRE

Your Genre is the heart of your story. Work through a series of Genre specific questions to keep you on the right path to finish your story.

Genre helps form your Protagonist’s change, the scenes you write, the stakes of your story, and the overall story question.

2

PROTAGONIST’S ARC OF CHANGE

Why is your story being told now?

The best part of a story, is that it begins right as a major event is beginning. And that event is your Protagonist is about to be forced to change their ways and live a more fulfilled and happier life. Plotting the path from beginning to end will give you your map for a fulfilling story.

3

ANTAGONIST’S POV

How does your Protagonist change?

By having an Antagonist to force them to reassess the way they have been living. And the best way to do this is to make your Protagonist face their greatest fear. And who better to do that then an Antagonist that has been written specifically for this purpose.

A story is only as strong as the Antagonist, for they are the force pushing the story forward.

4

STORY STRUCTURE

Once you have made a pitstop into your Genre and listed your obligatory scenes, drafted your Protagonist’s pathway to a more fulfilling life and familiarized yourself with the Antagonistic Force(s) that will drive this change, you can assess your Story Structure and if it works for your draft and for your readers.

1

SCENE STRENGTH

And lastly, its time to dive into the structure of your scenes to make sure your story grabs your readers and pulls them along with your characters.

The Scene is the building block of the story, and analyzing each scene will help you figure out where exactly you can strengthen your story.
